Diamond Island Association Ferry Rules
- Vehicle stickers are
to be placed on the bottom DRIVER'S side front window!
- A fee of $6.00 will be charged to issue a replacement
sticker.
- Members or guest vehicles with a trailer require a separate guest
pass for the trailer. It must be permanently attached to the trailer or the
car windshield next to the automobile sticker. Motor homes must load down
the center of the ferry and are required to pay the $20 truck fee.
- Vehicle stickers or guest passes cannot be purchased for
other property owners.
- Renters of island property will be allowed to purchase
guest passes.
- Dump trucks on the ferry will be limited to no larger
than one ton trucks. No construction truck will be allowed to use the
ferry the day before a holiday.
- Members must obtain a truck permit in advance. The fee
is $20. The weight limit is 20,000 pounds. Trucks are required to have a
weight slip each time they cross and are not allowed on the ferry without
one. Members are required to meet the truck and help with planking both
coming on and off the ferry. If the owner or a qualified representative is
not present the truck will not be allowed to cross.
- The use of the landings and the ferry are strictly at
the risk of the property owner and/or their guests. Diamond Island
Association assumes no liability for its use or any resulting damage.
Travel at your own risk or don't travel.
- Do not drive on or off the ferry without being directed
by the operator to do so. The operators are being instructed to do this.
- Drive very slowly when getting on or off the
ferry for the safety of the operators and to avoid the bouncing of the
counterweights. The bouncing counterweights contribute to the bending of
the ramps.
- Follow the operators instructions on which side of the
ferry to drive on. When the ferry is loaded with 3 or 4 vehicles or
vehicles with trailers, the weight must be distributed, so the ferry does
not bottom out at the landings.
- DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE. Our insurance coverage
and the Michigan DNR will not allow it. The only foot passengers allowed
are the operators and designated residents doing inspections or
maintenance work.
- It is advised that passengers have the vehicle parking break set,
vehicle is in park and engine is turned off during passage on the ferry.
